Despite the early lead, it would be a grind to the final buzzer for the Spitfires, who allowed 10 power-play chances to the Storm and pair of power-play goals.
Max Namestnikov got the Sting on the board just 83 seconds after Leaver’s exit to get Guelph to within 4-1 after 20 minutes.
Christopoulos completed his second hat-trick effort of the season early in the second period to restore Windsor’s four-goal lead, but Jett Luchanko and Namestnikov got the Storm to with 5-3 by the end of the second period.
Jacob Maillet gave Windsor some breathing room with a short-handed goal and the former Storm player finished with four points against his former team to move into the league’s top 25 scorers with 69 points in 60 games.
Shane Wright, who finished with three points, added an empty-net goal for the Spitfires before Valentin Zhugin closed the scoring with Guelph on a two-man power play.
