Strong head winds robbed sprinters of the chance to produce fast times on Friday’s opening day of the Corporate Area Development track and field meet at the National Stadium.
World Under-20 100 metre silver medallist Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of Kingston College recovered from a stumble to claw back the field before coasting to the finish line in an impressive 10.32 seconds into a minus 1.3 metres per second wind to capture the Class 1 boys 100m final.
On the girls side, Mickayla Gardener of Wolmer’s battled through a minus 3.9 metres per second wind to take the Class 1 girls 100 metres 11.95 seconds.
At the end of day one, title holders Kingston College lead on the boys with 148 points, followed by Jamaica College 129 and Calabar with 115.
Wolmer’s Girls is out front with 131 points, seven ahead of Excelsior with Immaculate Conception third on 104.
