English Premier League table 2022/23: Updated EPL standings as Man City stay top

Thanks to Arsenal’s loss at Nottingham Forest on May 20, Manchester City won the Premier League title before they took the field on the weekend.

Man City are scheduled to play on Sunday at home against Chelsea, but Arsenal’s defeat at Nottingham Forest meant that the Gunners lost any remaining opportunity to catch Man City in the table. That means that Man City will walk out on the field as champions.

The Nottingham Forest win was also significant because it also meant that they achieved mathematical safety. And so that leaves the remaining two relegation spots to a smaller group of three: Leicester City, Leeds United, and Everton.

As for the race to get into Europe, Newcastle and Man United are on the verge of clinching the other two places in the top four, while the race for 6th and 7th is heating up with four teams in the running for the two spots.

Below is the full Premier League table followed by a snapshot of each race.

Premier League title race

The Premier League title race is officially over, as Manchester City cannot be caught with chasers Arsenal four points back with only three to play for.

Even if Man City lose all three of their remaining matches, Arsenal would not be able to catch them as the Gunners’ title pursuit officially comes to an end.

Champions League places, European places

The top four in the table automatically qualify to next season’s Champions League group stage. Fifth place, along with the FA Cup winner, qualify directly to the Europa League group stage

With Manchester United winning the Carabao Cup and also on track to finish in the top four, that means the Conference League qualifying spot that is awarded to the Carabao winners will be passed on to the 6th-place team in the Premier League table (for now).

If Man City or Man United win the FA Cup and also finish in the top four, then the Europa League group stage spot that comes with winning that trophy would go to 6th place, while the Conference League qualifying spot gets bumped down to the 7th place team.

European places as of Saturday, May 20:

  • Champions League berths (4): Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Man United
  • Europa League berths (2): Liverpool, FA Cup winner
  • Conference League qualifying berth (1): Brighton

Premier League relegation

The relegation musical chairs are nearly full with the music soon set to stop. There are two relegation spots left and three teams dancing around them.

Leeds fell short with a chance to save their season on Sunday against West Ham, affording Leicester City a big opportunity on Monday to pull out of the relegation zone against Newcastle.
