Looking to lay down another Championship marker on Saturday afternoon, Middlesbrough will make the trip to a struggling West Brom.
Starting with the hosts, while West Brom might have enjoyed an immediate boost after welcoming Carlos Corberan to the Hawthorns back in October, the Baggies are enduring a rather public wobble. Suffering late heartbreak away at Watford last weekend as they eventually fell to an action-packed 3-2 defeat, the former Huddersfield boss is calling on his side to find a much-needed boost in the Midlands. However, crashing out of the FA Cup last month following a shock 3-0 drumming away at Bristol City, Corberan’s men have now won just one of their last six domestic matchups across all formats. With their recent issues underlined by a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Birmingham on February 10th, West Brom have shown some extended struggles at the back. In fact, the Baggies have recorded just a single Championship clean sheet since January 2nd.
As for the visitors, although some might have been shocked to see Michael Carrick arrive at the Riverside back in October, Middlesbrough are in the midst of a remarkable purple patch. Only continuing to skyrocket their way up the Championship table, the Reds now have a stunning Premier League return at the top of their agenda in 2023. Clinching three consecutive 3-1 wins against QPR, Sheffield United and Cardiff over recent weeks, the one-time Manchester United coach has seen his side gain a host of plaudits. With the mood in their camp at the highest it has been in recent memory, Boro have won each of their previous five second-tier matchups. With their sights set on making up some ground in the automatic promotion chase, Carrick’s side have gained a reputation for their free-scoring displays in the final third.
