‘A classy, brilliant player’: Lampard blown away by £110,000-a-week Chelsea ace

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard has raved about Thiago Silva after the match against Bournemouth.

Lampard has told Football.London that Thiago Silva was superb for Chelsea in the Premier League game against Bournemouth away from home  on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues got the better of the Cherries 3-1.

Thiago Silva started the game for the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

While the £110,000-a-week defender (Spotrac) did not have the worst of matches, he could have done better on a few occasions.

The Brazilian defender was probably lucky to get away with a late tackle on Dominic Solanke, and he should have done better for the goal that Chelsea conceded.

Other than that, the former Paris Saint-Germain star did relatively well and was a leader at the back.

Frank Lampard on Chelsea defender Thiago Silva

Lampard said about Thiago Silva: “Thiago is a credit in all aspects. He’s a classy, brilliant player. His career says it. He’s brilliant at looking after himself.

“At 38 or so, I was in the MLS at that point. I understand it. Especially as a centre-back to be playing in the Premier League.

“What he must be doing to his body. He’s also got a real great mind and he has a winning mentality so he would have been suffering a bit recently because he feels it, he wears it.

“He’s a great reference point for the young centre-backs we have in the team around him. Again, nothing but praise for Thiago in all aspects.”

Big player

In our view, Thiago Silva is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is a big player for Chelsea.

The 38-year-old plays well most of the time and is a leader at the back.

What is remarkable about Thiago Silva is that despite his age, he is still going strong and could give defenders much much younger than him a run for their money.
